About the irie
The Irie was formed in Chandler, Arizona by George Ruiz in 2012. While the project began years earlier, the band’s current lineup came together at the end of 2022 and quickly found its stride.
That chapter began when drummer Johnny Groove returned from Los Angeles to Tempe, Arizona and reconnected with Ruiz. Alongside bassist Marcus Mapes, the trio locked in immediately and recorded their first single together, “Toxic Love,” setting the tone for the band’s next era.
The Irie followed with the Coming Down EP, then reached a major milestone with their second EP, Can’t Get Enough, which debuted at #1 on the iTunes Reggae Charts. The band has since released singles from their upcoming album Planet Paradise, featuring collaborations with Andy Chaves of Katastro and Nathan Aurora of Iya Terra.
